Thanks for your feedback. OK, I took your advice which was good for me to identify whether the disk is faulty or the adapter. Turns out File explorer immediately recognized it. Would it be worth it for me to unscrew the case and try to prompt the read head into getting unstuck or is that an unlikely cause to the problem since windows 10 would have still recognized it under that circumstance?
Turns out File explorer immediately recognized that one. Opening the case is fine as long as you keep the platters spotlessly clean.
I've done it before and it is good fun to watch the reading arm move about. Note that one screw is usally covered by the disk label.
