We loved the private, very refreshing pool, with poolside drinks and food, as well as the elegant inclusive breakfast in a decadent room filled with delectable Neapolitan delights. Even room service of just a Caprese salad was one of the best dishes we had in all of Italy, thanks to carefully grown on-site produce and the most luxurious olive oil.
Our room was spacious, clean and elegant, with a sitting area and a large bathroom, and we had a breathtaking balcony overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Perhaps the best experience at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria , however, is watching the sunset with a cocktail on the patio while listening to nightly live music. I did a lot of research on the best restaurants in Sorrento, Italy, and am pleased to present three where we had some of our favorite meals in all of Italy.
Ristorante Fuoro was a restaurant right in the heart of the main street for shopping and tourism, so I had my doubts that it would deliver an authentic Italian review, but it had good reviews, so we gave it a shot, and it ended up being one of our favorite meals in all of Italy. We still talk about this meal. Ristorante Bagni Delfino was a popular, highly rated restaurant that came up a lot in my research. How to get to Ristorante Bagni Delfino: It can be difficult to locate, but the best advice I can give you is that if you are on the main streets of Sorrento, just keep walking as far left as you can, away from the Grand Hotel Excelsior and its cliffs.
At the same time, aim to walk as close to the water as you can. On the image below, there is a yellow and a white building on the lower right side, with a dock jutting out from them.
Climb a short flight of steps which brings you up to a narrow lane, just wide enough for the people living in the smart houses around here.
Keep going straight ahead ignoring turnoffs. After 10 minutes the lane descends to a wider road. Turn right joining this road and just 50 yards further along where the road turns right, turn left on the bend.
This is the second single file section of footpath and you may wonder if this is the right way at first. Very shortly the path gradually descends until you see a wide stone staircase heading down to the main coastal road below. Be careful on the main road and turn left. Follow the road around the tight bend. Just around the bend you will see a private drive veering off left through orange trees to a house. Just after a slight left bend fork left up a paved path which leads up to the house.
The path zigzags up to the house and you might wonder if you have right of way at first as it goes through the property to a lane beyond. Just keep going straight downhill, ignoring turnoffs. Turning a bend the road levels out just before it joins a main road.
Turn right and the main road junction in the centre of Massa Lubrense is just a couple of minutes' walk. At the junction the local buses, tourist office and viewpoint is right.
